The cross of Calvary may be a symbol of utter humiliation for unbelievers, but for Christians it is a symbol of utmost victory. That rugged, blood-stained, empty cross is an eternal reminder for those who believe, of Christ’s triumph over death and of His selfless giving. Jesus gave His all.
"He loved us and offered himself as a sacrifice for us, a pleasing aroma to God" (Ephesians 5:2 NLT).
On that first Easter He conquered death in order to give us eternal life. To this day, as our High Priest, He has not stopped His selfless giving. He ever lives to make intercession for us!
As we celebrate our Savior this Easter, I want to encourage you with a quote from one of my favorite books, The Rare Jewel of Christian Contentment, by Jeremiah Burroughs, an English Puritan pastor:
“What God gives to me, he gave it as a pledge of his love; let me return it to him as a pledge of my obedience...Oh, it is your love, O Lord, which has given us everything.”
